Lesson 9
The only that I am stuck on is finding great books, I went to the city library and there were no books in English there were a few books that translated from Korean to English but none of those books were on my topic. So for my paper I am going to have more online sources than book sources but I am going to keep searching. I am really excited about writing my paper I have learned so much about euthanasia, and there is more to it than just murder. Out of all the papers that I done as topic of choice this one is my favorite. I am nervous because this is the final paper so I have mixed emotions about the research paper.

Do you have a cast iron stomach?
Bundigie (bun-dee-gee)
Bundigie is boiled caterpillars it is a popular vendor food especially during spring festival time. Some people eat the cocoon and caterpillars others just suck the caterpillar out of its cacoon. I have not been brave enough to try this or any other bug vendor food, I have been told that Bundigie is something that people should just eat and not smell.

Lesson 8 Memo
DATE: 1 December 2011
TO: Professor Romina Kline
FROM: Jasmine Lowery
SUBJECT: Euthanasia
For my research paper I am aspired to write about euthanasia or assisted suicide. I plan to answer if euthanasia should be a way of relieving ill people of their pain, saving people from the torments of their illness. My thesis: euthanasia is becoming a more debatable topic because of the laws and the beliefs of the American government. If a person is suffering for an incurable disease and is physically incompetent, euthanasia should be patient or their families’ final decision. I have a few other topics in mind to write about such as vegetarianism really a good lifestyle decision, or families facing fines for the extremities of recycling in a foreign country.
I have done some research on the two types of euthanasia. And I have done research about countries where euthanasia is legal like the Netherlands. My targeted audience for my paper is physicians, doctors, and ill people. I am planning to go to my local military post library to gather broader information on my topic. I am using the internet to find reliable sources as well. I also am downloading books onto my kindle so my information is with me everywhere, all of this can help me have more of an insight on my topic.
May I have your approval of my topic by 4 December 2011? If you do not approve of my topic if you would, please recommend other more suggestions.

Lesson 8
The article I found pertaining to my topic was Shades of Schiavo? Euthanasia case involving little girl weighs on Mitt Romney by Marc Caputo the article is about a state agency under the former governor of Massachusetts was attempting to take a 11 year old girl off of life support. The young girl suffered multiple brain injuries she was brutally beaten by her legal guardian’s aunt and stepfather. The department of social services got the agreement with a court to take the girl off life support. A short time after social services and Romney’s court case the girl came out of her coma. Her hospital said the girl is able to breathe on her own but she has a lot recovery to go. The aunt and stepfather originally wanted the girl off of life support, the father and brother refused. http://www.miamiherald.com/2011/11/14/2502358/shades-of-schiavo-euthanasia-case.html#ixzz1dlpoKiJP
"Two Ways a Woman Can Get Hurt"; Advertising and Violence" on pp. 417-441 of Rereading America By Jean Kilbourne
The visual ads on pages 417-439 shows that the media tends to use sexual ads to promote to the public, the advisements plays on people’s sexual desires but in a way that everyone perceives the message of the ad differently. Most of the advertisements I found them disturbing and inappropriate. I know ads are promoting products but some of them were just ridiculous what made me wonder was what was made the company think people would have interest in products that promote violence and exploitation of children. All the ads seem to categories women, men, and children and how they are weighted in society when it comes to violence. Ads also have children appearing as objects and hints of violence put into ads. The ad on page 125 appears to be set in a downtown area, the ad is supposedly a jean ad for women, it shows a guy he looks like a policeman he is hosting a women in the air by the belt loop of her jeans The women’s hair is covering her face so I could not view her face expression. There are two other guys both wearing t-shirt and jeans one on each side of the policeman they look as though they want to engage. The ad looked more like rape the women appears scared and shocked and wants to get away the ad provokes violence than attention to jeans.

I commented on Jen's blog jen-morgan.blogspot.com regarding to her lesson 7 assignment her essay was about teen sex and pregnancy I though it was a good topic that is always a issue its sad how some parents want to be cool and are more willing to by teens alcohol instead of condoms.I also commented on csbyrd.blogspot.com regarding to her lesson 5 assignment she seemed unsure of how to grade herself with rubrics, I told her to grade herself with honesty so the professor can really help and pinpoint big problems.

Lesson 7
The audience for my essay is younger and older adults, alcoholic abusers and dependents. Thesis: The drinking age should be increased to 25 older adults are more likely to contemplate their actions of drinking more than young adults. Older adults reflect the consequences of drinking family, job, and career. Women have to contemplate drinking abusively more than men.
My claims made my thesis stronger; my first claim the drinking age should be increased to 25, older adults are more likely to contemplate their actions more than young adults. My support for this claim is when people are older they have more life experiences and better priorities.Someyoung adults still act on impulse and peer pressure and acceptance. My second claim older adults reflect the consequences of drinking family, job, and career. My support for this claim is older adults are more willing to seek help and keep what is more meaningful and valuable in their life’s. And if the drinking age was increased their will be less drunk driving accidents. My third claim Women have to contemplate drinking abusively more than men. My support for this claim is women have a biological clock that is limited abusing alcohol can prevent pregnancy or cause a baby to suffer deformity or brain problems. Alcohol makes women’s body more prone to various kinds of cancer such as breast, colon, and liver.
All of my sources were reliable the websites I used for my essay out of all of my sources I feel as though the cdc Centers for Diseases Control Prevent website was the most helpful. The website provides information about alcohol and drugs, diseases, environmental issues, workplace hazards, and disaster preparations. The website provided numerous amounts of ways to improve people and their life’s. So the CDC website helped me the most the other websites were mainly factual statics websites.

Lesson 6
For the lesson six assignment in the textbook Writing Arguments the images on pp.118 I found both of them disturbing the images sent chills down my spine. The first image shows a man John Walker Lindh my initial reaction to the first image is that Lindh is guilty of some wrongdoing. In the image he looks creepy his head is shaved he is wearing a prisoner uniform. Lindh is getting his picture taken in the U.S. at the Alexandria County Sheriff’s Department. Lindh is a traitor due to supporting the Taliban activates after the attacks on September 11, 2001. The second image shows Lindh in Afghanistan he looks nude and rugged, he is tied down and blindfolded. Both of the images bring forth several questions and emotions. Also both images show how the military deals with enemies. A thesis for both images would be: Is America falling into the categories of other countries when it comes to torture and torment.
This graphic is an anti-smoking ad; the argument that is being made is that smoking kills. Smoking slows down the body and darkens and hardens the organs. The graphic shows the person coming out of one cigarette the graphic could mean that the first cigarette is the worst. The person appears to be falling on their knees the graphic can also be saying that smoking evokes weakness. The person also appears to be holding their hand out or it looks as if though the person is reaching for something. It can mean not starting to smoke or becoming addicted can help someone reach for bigger and better things in life. Smoking can damage a person’s life and cause internal problems for themselves and people around them like secondhand smoke, and hastening a person to age faster.
Being able to comprehend a visual argument is significant because it gives people different ways to portray an argument. Depending on the topic visual arguments have a way of intriguing an argument than one with just words. Visual arguments change the perspective of an argument and can make an argument more persuasive and credible.

Happy Halloween!
These are the first pumpkins I have ever carved; my favorite pumpkin is the middle one,it’s Jack Skellington from Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas. It is very dangerous for families to trick or treat off post or on the economy because not everyone understands the concept of trick or treating or halloween. So everyone on post decided to throw a great Halloween party for children and their families. Everyone loves it when there are big holiday parties because Korean families come and learn and enjoy American holidays. It was nice to see the American and Korean families interact halloween is something new for Korean families so they were really excited about the candy, haunted house, booths, and their costumes.
Im all better just in time for Halloween trick or treat everyone!

Deadly Snake Bite!
I have a four year old Yorkshire Terrier, named Achilles he is six pounds and two ounces.
Yesterday,Achilles got bit by a deadly Korean Tiger Snake! The snake bit him on his back right paw. I took him to the vet they told me to keep the funnel on his head and give him benadryl. The vet said the snake did not penetrate that much venom into his paw. But, his paw is really red and extremely swollen he keeps whining and crying. The vet said there is not any serious damage but I'm still worried and so freaked out! Is there anyone that knows a lot about snakes and bites tell me if I can do anything else so my puppy can get better?
The Tiger Snake is one of the four venomous species of the Mamushi genus it is related to the American Cottonmouth snake. The Tiger snake is found in various places such as America, Australia and Asia. The tiger snake affects the blood and nervous system causing the wound to swell and bleed.

Lesson 5
Is anyone spending lengthy amounts of time finishing assignments? I spend several hours trying to complete assignments I feel as though I am kind of neglecting my other classes to focus on this one? It’s not that I write and type slow it’s my planning that slows me down. I tried writing in a place where I have no distracts or disruptions it seems to be working alright. Does anyone have any better suggestions?
Which technique has been the most valuable for me and what technique would I not use again?
Idea mapping and the pro and con technique is working the best for me. These techniques helped me revised my essay for lesson 4. Free writing does not work very well for me I tend to stay on topic at first then I tend to drift off and write about other things.
What have I learned about myself during this lesson?
I have learned that my writing needs to improve, but I know this class will help my writing progress.
What have a learned from the textbooks of this course?
By reading the chapters I get a deeper understanding of the assignments. Love reading so going through the textbooks is not boring for me.
What have you learned about your instructor’s expectations of you?
Professor Kline has been nothing kind to me. I like to print out my rubrics and essays review her comments so I know where I am going wrong. She seems like a professor that wants her students to get the best out of their work.
Whose blog did I read and comment on?
I read and commented on Doug’s blog doug-m.blogspot.com he is struggling to complete assignments I suggested that using a timer for planning and writing might help maintain a better pace.Or working in a place where there are no distractions and disruptions.

Lesson 4
Evaluation of supporting evidence for my revised claim
To revise my essay I used three sources my original paper and two websites. The first website I used was www.familycircle.com the website explains how adapting to change extends life and strengthens the body and mind. The second website I used was www.JoanBorysenko.com she is a Harvard Psychologist and author of various novels. One of her novels grasped my attention Mending the body Minding the Mind explains how to cope with changes mentally, emotionally, and socially how to deal with stress. All three sources were a major help to complete my assignment.
Which of the task from Writing Arguments did I find most helpful and why?
The pre-writing task that I found most helpful was the believing and Doubting Game because it made my ideas more structural. The other task I used was free writing or blind writing it worked at first then I caught myself drifting off and writing about things that had nothing to do with my essay. So the believing and doubting game worked best for me.
Which genre of argument Would I most Likely write?
The genre of argument I would most like to use is letters to an editor because at times I can be very opinionated. I also would like to use a visual argument I would love to inform readers with artistic perspective using persuasive and compelling words with drawings and graphics.
Did I ask anyone to make any recommendations? How is an argument both a process and a product?
For this essay I did not ask for anyone’s help I just felt as though it was not need. An argument is both a process and a product because the process brings forth defensive ideas to persuade and inform the reader to make them feel what they are reading is credible.
How did the previewing sections of a book help me understand the material?
Previewing the sections gave me highlights of what to expect in the chapters but since some of the material was new and interesting I just read the chapters.
Whose blog did I read and response to?
I responded to Jody’s blog alaskahousewife.blogspot.com her article for lesson 3 was controversial. The article was about this economist guy posting on his blog about how the 9/11 hero were overrated and 9/11 has pushed everyone apart instead of together. I was not in New York during 9/11 but I can’t help but wash up the memories of how I felt in elementary school watching the deplorable and devastating event on television.

Flood claim 57 lives as rain wreak havoc in China
Monsoon season has approached Asia, with an enormous force this September. During the past weekend flooding and landslides has killed 57 people in northern China there are 14 people still missing. The National Disaster Reduction teams are trying to help evacuate millions of people in the northern and southern parts of China. In Sichua(pronounced see-chua) central area of China has not had a flood this destructive since 1847.The landslide has killed 14 people in central China 18 people are still missing.Thousands are still stranded and separated from family. It is so deplorable and devastating that thousands of people are without food and shelter. It seems as thought they were not prepared for monsoon season to cause so much damage this year. According to the civil affair authorities the numbers of deaths and missing is still rising. Hopefully monsoon season will not be as destructive to Korea and Japan.
